Bulldogs, Trojans split doubleheader in first GSC baseball meeting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Union and Trevecca Nazarene baseball squads split a doubleheader to open the teams' first-ever Gulf South Conference series in Nashville on Friday.

Union (10-13, 4-9 GSC) scored seven runs in the third inning of an 11-10 game one slugfest win before falling 14-5 in the twin bill's back end.

Carson Chavies recorded two hits in each game to stretch his on-base streak to 11 games, while Caleb Davis extended his streak to 10 consecutively.

The Bulldogs and Trojans (7-14, 5-9) will conclude the three-game set with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.

Game one: UU 11, TNU 10

Four of Union's six hits in the third inning went for extra bases, and the Bulldogs plated seven in the frame to take a three-run lead. Trevecca responded with four home runs among its first five batters in the bottom of the inning and an 8-7 advantage.

Union held an 11-10 lead after six innings, and Ethan Orwig and Briant Bazydlo closed the game, combining for 3.0 scoreless, one-hit innings.

Dyllon Barrett, Grant Ross, Hudson Cepparulo, and Alec Hardy all reached three times in the victory. Canyon Pace blasted his career's fifth home run to cap Union's third-inning hit parade.

Game two: TNU 14, UU 5

An RBI double and two-run home run from Colby Davis were too little too late for Union, which gave up nine runs in the first inning. Davis finished 3-4.
