JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team posted a 99-90 win over Fisk University, Wednesday, at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union improved to 3-2 overall, while Fisk dropped to 2-10 on the season.
Union exploded for 55 second-half points to pull away late. Union hot 54 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Union scored seven straight points to start the game and led by as many as nine points in the first half. However, Fisk made a late run in the final four minutes of the first half to lead 50-44 at the break.
Union chipped away in the second half and took the lead for good, 67-66, on a layup by
Jack Shackelford with 9:58 left to play. The Bulldogs extended their first double-figure lead at 83-74 on a couple of free throws from
Will Lovings-Watts.
Union led by as many as 16 points twice late in the game, including the final time at 1:31 left, up 96-80.
Union was led by
Terrence Ringo Jr. with 34 points and 14 rebounds for his third double-double in five games on the season. Lovings-Watts added 17 points,
Jamiir Allen 14, and
Devaki Garr with 12 points. Union shot 50 percent from the field, 32 percent (7-22) from long range, and 71 percent (22-31) from the free throw line.
The game featured seven ties and 10 lead changes. Union out-rebounded Fisk 41-33, including 14-8 offensively.
