Union volleyball drops GSC road match at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Union University volleyball team fell 3-0 at the University of Montevallo Friday night. Union dropped to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the Gulf South Conference. Montevallo improved to 7-10 on the season and 4-4 in league play. 

Montevello controlled play early in the match, opening the first set with a 16-0 run. Union's Parker Goff stopped the run with a kill. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Montevallo 12-9 over the remainder of the set, but could not overcome the slow start.

In the second set, the team matched each other point for point early, with the score knotted at 10 apiece. Montevallo then slowly pulled away to go up 2-0 in the match. 

The third set was tightly played. Union held its largest lead of the night at 10-6. It was the largest lead for either team in the third set. With the score tied at 23-23, Montevello closed out the match with two straight points. 

Union led the kills total 30-29, while Montevallo edged Union 5-2 in aces. Montevallo dominated the net, 13-5, over Union in blocks. 

Union was led by Elizabeth Gilbert and Natalie Supine with seven kills. Kylie Creech led with 14 assists, and Sarah-Kate Savage led with 13 digs. Sydney Davis, Gilbert, Ajahnaea Williams, and Supine all had two blocks each. 

Up next for Union will be the second of two GSC road matches this weekend, Saturday, October 11, at 2 p.m. at UAH.
