JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team posted a 99-39 win over Shorter University Thursday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium/David BlackstockĀ Court. Union, ranked No. 19 in the WBCA poll, improved to 11-2 overall and 9-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Shorter dropped to 1-13 on the season and 1-10 in league play.Ā
The win marked the sixth straight for the Lady Bulldogs. It was also career win number 697 for head coach
Mark Campbell. He is on pace to become the fastest coach to 700 wins in college basketball history, all levels, all divisions, men or women.Ā
Union hit 21 3-pointers in the win. It was the third most threes made in a game in school history. Union's record for made threes is 26 versus Stillman in 2015 and also hit 24 versus Rust in 2015. Union also had 46 attempts in the game, which is tied for the second-most in school history. Union's record for 3-point attempts is 47 versus Southern Wesleyan in 2014.Ā
The 99 points is the most on the season for Union, passing 98 in the season opener versus Mississippi College.
Union controlled the game from the start, coming out of the gate hot.

Shanique Lucas, and
Samariah Thompson made Union's first three shots, all three-pointers. Union led 6-0 and then 9-2 after three possessions. Union hit six of its first eight 3-pointers. Union led 29-15 at the end of the first quarter. Union added 24 more points in the second quarter to lead 53-23 at the half.Ā
Union dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Hawks 30-6. The Lady Bulldogs shot 61 percent in the third quarter and then coasted to the 99-39 win.
The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by
Leah Church with 15 points, matching her season high. She was 5-of-10 from 3-point range.
Shanique Lucas added 13 points while
Naomi Van NesĀ and
Leah Cauble scored 11 points each. Dillard,
Lauren West, and
Jordan Little each had nine points.
Shylee Morrison led with her career high of eight rebounds and added a season high eight points. Union shot 50 percent from the field, 46 percent (21-46) from 3-point range, and 62 percent (8-13) from the free throw line.Ā
Shorter was led by Hardin with nine points. The Lady Hawks shot 31 percent from 3-point range, and 21 percent (4-21) from long range, and 43 percent (3-7) from the foul line.Ā
Up next for Union will be a home match-up against Lee University, the top team in the GSC standings at this point, Saturday at 2 p.m.
