Union women's soccer earns third shutout win of season

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team posted a 1-0 win over Spring Hill College at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Union improved to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the Gulf South Conference. Spring Hill dropped to 0-8-1 on the season and 0-5-1 in league play. 
All three wins this season for Union have been shut outs, two in GSC play. 
The lone goal of the afternoon came just before half. Union's Matilda Nyberg sent a ball to Shaylynn Bentley on the right side and Bentley played a cross into the box where Rachel Shane was there for the header into the top of the goal. 
Shots in the game were close with Union edging Spring Hill 16-15 overall, while Spring Hill had the slim advantage of 9-8 in shots on goal. 
Union dominated the corner kick opportunities 7-1 and fouls were even 7-7. 
Ines Gama and Lilly Ludwig led Union with three shots each. Rylee Iorio played all 90 minutes in goal, recording nine saves. 
Up next for Union will be a two-match road trip to Alabama Huntsville and West Alabama, September 30 and October 2.
