VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Union University volleyball team defeated Valdosta State University 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-9) Friday night in the first match of two road games in two days. Union improved to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State dropped to 6-10 on the season and 0-3 in league play.Â
The 4-0 start for Union is the best conference start since Union joined the league in 2012-13.Â
Valdosta State, playing in front of a home crowd, came out hot looking for its first conference win of the young season. The Blazers led 17-13 in the first set. However, Union stormed back, scoring 12 of the final 13 points of the set, including nine straight.Â
Union won the second set by the same score of 25-18, and then dominated the third set, 25-9.Â
Union hit .288 in the match and more than doubled VSU in kills, 41-20. Union also led in blocks, 5-3, assists 36-18, and digs, 63-47. VSU led in aces, 8-4.Â
Union was led by
Emily Grace Calhoon with 11 kills.
Jordan Vick got her fifth double-double in the past six matches and eighth overall with 30 assists and 13 dig.
Alyssa Tatsch led with 17 digs, while
Sidney Hegg and
Reese Owens led with two blocks each.
Sydney Sample led with three aces and added 11 digs.Â
Up next for Union will be a road match at West Georgia, Saturday, September 24 at 2 p.m.
