LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The Union University volleyball defeated the University of West Alabama 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-20) Tuesday night. The match was the Gulf South Conference opener for both teams. Union improved to 8-4 on the season, while West Alabama dropped to 5-8.Â
Union hit .248 in the match, including .435 in the second set to tie the match and take control. After dropping set one, Union dominated the second and third sets, leading the entirety of both sets. The fourth set was close early with both teams gaining small leads. Union took the lead for good and led the rest of the way, getting the match victory.Â
Union led 45-39 in kills, 10-9 in aces, 10-6 in blocks, 43-33 in assists, and 68-60 in blocks.Â
Emily Grace Calhoon and
Alyssa Tatsch led in kills with 12 and 10 respectively.
Bailey Hughes recorded four aces. Calhoon led with five blocks,
Jordan Vick had 35 assists, and
Sydney Sample led with 17 digs.Â
Vick recorded her third straight double-double and sixth of the season.Â
Union is back home this weekend with a pair of GSC games, Friday at 7 p.m. versus Lee and Saturday at 2 p.m. versus Shorter.Â
