JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team posted a 3-2 (25-11, 24-26, 25-16, 23-25, 15-11) Friday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium, David Blackstock Court. Union improved to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-1 in league play.Â
Union dominated sets one and three. Set two was close but Union pulled out to 24-20 lead late. Lee closed out the second set with seven straight points to win. The fourth set was also close, and this time Lee pulled out to a 20-15 lead. Union rallied back to close to within one point, 24-23. However, Lee got the final point to even the match at 2-2.Â
Union led for the entire fifth set, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Lee got as close at 10-9, but Union held off the Lady Flames. In the final three points for Union, the Lady Bulldogs got blocks from
Alyssa Tatsch and
Mikiah Perdue, along with a match clinching kill from Purdue.
Union hit .271 in the match, while Lee hit .050. Union led in kills (56-39), aces (13-8), blocks (11-3), assists (45-36), and digs (62-57). Union did commit 17 service errors, to just nine for Lee.
Emily Grace Calhoon and Perdue led with 15 kills each. Perdue added eight blocks also.
Davey Slaughter led with seven aces, while Tatsch led with nine blocks.
Jordan Vick posted her fourth straight double-double with 39 assists and 11 digs.
Sydney Sample led with 21 digs, while Reece Owens added 10.Â
Up next for Union will be another home GSC match, Saturday, September 17 at 2 p.m. versus Shorter.Â
