Ouachita Baptist rallies to topple Union women's soccer 2-1

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's soccer team lost to Ouachita Baptist University, 2-1, at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex Thursday night. Union dropped to 0-2 while Ouachita Baptist improved to 2-1. 

The Lady Bulldogs opened the scoresheet early on with a goal in the third minute of play. After receiving a foul at mid field, Hannah Patterson played the ball into the box where Claire Maxon found the first contact. The ball ended up at Holly Trisdale's feet as she touched the ball in to give Union an early lead. Just before half, Ouachita's Fernanda Valencia scored in the 44th minute, assisted by Paige Owens. The score was 1-1 at half. OBU added one more goal midway through the second half to put the match away. Jamie Fowler scored in the 70th minute.

OBU outshot Union 13-8 in the match, but Union matched their shots on goal at 5-5. Corner kicks were 7-3 in favor of OBU, while both teams committed seven fouls each.

Union's eight shots were taken by Holly Trisdale, Ines de Gama, Lilly Ludwig, Rivers Abshere, Joslyn Greene, and Victoria Seymour. Rylee Iorio played all 90 minutes in net, recorded three saves.

Up next for Union will be a home game, a non-conference match versus Harding University, Saturday, September 3 at 2 p.m.
