Union baseball sweeps Lane in midweek action

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team posted a doubleheader sweep over Lane College Tuesday at Fesmire Field. Union won the first game 20-4 and took game two, 17-5.
Union dominated game one including a 10-run fourth inning. Union took the lead with three runs in the second inning and never looked back. Patrick Music, Britt Netterville, and Grayson Swanson led Union with four RBI each. Swanson had the game's only home run, a 3-run blast in the fourth. Ben Smith led Union with four hits, going 4-for-5 with three RBI. Carson Chavies and Netterville added three hits each. Union had eight extra base hits in the game, including one triple from Netterville. Jake Jewell (2-0) earned the win, going four innings, allowing six hits and two runs with a pair of walks and two strikeouts. Billy Beckham tossed two innings of relief and Walker Adkisson tossed the final inning of relief. Adkisson making his first appearance since the second week of the season after missing time with an injury. 
In the second game, Lane jumped out of the gate with four runs in the first and another in the second to lead Union 5-0. Union then posted 17 unanswered runs. Union added two runs in the bottom of the second to get on the board. In the bottom of the fourth, Union took the lead with four runs. Music smacked a 3-run home run to give Union the lead. Union added seven more runs in the fifth to break the game open, and then added four more in the sixth. Music and Beckham led Union with five RBI each. Music and John Wheeler led with three hits each. Ryan Middleton started and lasted one inning. Ryan Evans (1-1) tossed the next four innings of relief allowing no runs and just one hit. Ethan Orwig and Stuart Edge each tossed one inning of relief. 
Up next for Union will be a Gulf South Conference road series at Auburn Montgomery, April 9-10.
