JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball posted a doubleheader split Friday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Union moved to 13-25 on the season and 8-15 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama is now 21-19 overall and 12-11 in league play.Â
It was also senior day as Union honored
Alyssa Ward, Harly Bartholomew, and Lake DiStefano after the doubleheader.Â
Union scored first with three runs in the first. A ball hit by
Fallon Groves to deep left-center was ruled a no-catch. The double drove in two runs to cap the big inning.
Macey Neal starting the scoring with an RBI single. Union added two more runs in the second when
Grace White drove in
Idalia Alarcon on a sacrifice fly and Ward scored on a wild pitch. Neal and
Bryleigh Carneal had RBI singles in the fourth. West Alabama got single runs in the third and seventh. DiStefano (4-7) tossed a complete game in the victory, allowing two runs, one earned on seven hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Ward led Union with three hits, while Neal and Groves led with two RBI.Â
Game was all West Alabama, not only ending the game early with a run-rule but tossing a no-hitter. Mynard (10-5) allowed no hits in five innings of work with three strikeouts and two walks. Mackenzie David was Union's only base runner in the game, walking twice. She walked five times in the doubleheader.
Reese Taylor (5-7) lasted just two-thirds of an inning with
Kira Finkley and
Olivia Baker tossing in relief.Â
The two teams will play game three of the series, Saturday at 1 p.m.
