Union softball sweeps Miles

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team posted a doubleheader sweep over Miles College at Fesmire Field. Union won the first game 9-1 in six innings and the second game 10-1 in five innings. Union improved to 8-13 on the season, while Miles dropped to 3-9.
 
In game one, Union's Olivia Baker (3-4) pitched all six innings, allowing two hits with 11 strikeouts. Union outhit Miles 9-2 in the game. Union was led by freshman Morgan Jennings with three hits and three stolen bases. Macey Neal and Baylee Stewart led Union with two RBI each.
 
In game two, Union pitcher Kira Finkley (1-3) earned her first win of the season with two hits allowed and four strikeouts over four innings of work. Charli Rice pitched the fifth inning, allowing no hits and striking out two. Union had 13 hits in the game. Bryleigh Carneal, Grace White, Neal, Fallon Groves, and Harley Bartholomew led with two hits each. Groves led with three RBI, hit her first home run of the season, and her team-leading sixth double of the season. White and Carneal recorded two RBI each. Neal hit a triple. Carneal and White also hit doubles in the game. 
 
Up next for Union will be a home Gulf South Conference series against Valdosta State. The first game is scheduled for Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m.
