JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team defeated the University of West Georgia 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-17) Friday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium, David Blackstock Court. Union improved to 18-9 overall and 11-2 in the GSC. West Georgia dropped to 10-19 on the season and 3-11 in league play. 

The win for Union puts the Lady Bulldogs in sole possession of second place in the GSC with three regular season matches left. Union is one game behind league leading West Florida and one game ahead of third place Mississippi College. Union holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Mississippi College, but not over West Florida. 

In the first set, Union was down 6-5 but outscored the Wolves 20-6 to close out the set. In the second set, Union was down 11-8 before rattling off eight straight points and nine of the next 10 to pull away for the 25-19 win. In the third set, Union was down 12-10 before an 11-0 run put Union in control for the sweep. 

Union led 39-26 in kills, while out hitting West Georgia .278 to .078. Union led 6-2 in aces, 7-5 in blocks, 35-24 in assists, and 43-41 in digs. 

Union was led by Alyssa Tatch with 11 kills to lead all players. Jordan Vick had three aces and 29 assists. Sidney Hegg led with five blocks and Sydney Sample led with 12 digs. 

Up next for Union will be the final regular season home match of the year, Saturday, October 29 at 2 p.m. versus Valdosta State.
