Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Union Sports Communication

Union volleyball defeats Valdosta State 3-0

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's volleyball team defeated Valdosta State 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-21) Saturday afternoon in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium, David Blackstock Court. Union improved to 19-9 overall and 12-2 in the Gulf South Conference. VSU fell to 12-18 overall and 6-8 in the GSC.
 
With this win over VSU, the Lady Bulldogs have guaranteed themselves a No. 2 or No. 3 seed and a bye in the first round of the GSC Tournament. One win in either of the final two games next week clinches a No. 2 seed and a double-bye in the tournament.
 
Union controlled both of the first two sets. However, set three had VSU jumping out to a 5-1 lead. Union then went on a 10-1 run to take control. VSU rallied late to cut the deficit ot two points, but Union held of the rally for the sweep. 

Union hit .297 as a team while VSU hit .171. Union led in kills 39-29, in aces 13-2, in blocks 7-3, and in assists 35-29. VSU led in digs 33-27.
 
Emily Grace Calhoon led Union with 11 kills. Davey Slaughter led in aces with five, Calhoon led in Blocks with five, Jordan Vick led in assists with 31, and Vick led in digs with eight.
 
Up next for Union is a conference matchup on the road against the Hawks of Shorter University. This match is set to take place Thursday, November 3 at 5:00 p.m.
