Hoover,Ala. – The Union University women's volleyball team lost two close games in the final day of the South Region Crossover Classic. Union lost 3-2 (23-25, 15-25, 25-15, 25-14, 11-15) to Palm Beach Atlantic University in the first game of the day. Union lost to No. 4 University of Tampa 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 12-25, 19-25) in second game of the day. The Lady Bulldogs fell to 15-8 overall on this year's campaign.
In the first game, Union hit .280 while .218. Union led in kills 50-49, in aces 13-8, in blocks 12-4, in assists 41-40, and in digs 54-46.
Both
Emily Grace Calhoon and
Reese Owens led the team in kills with 13 each. Owens led the team in aces with five.
Sidney Hegg and Calhoon led the team in blocks with five a piece.
Jordan Vick led in aces with 33, and
Sydney Sample and Vick led in digs each with 12.
In the second game, Union came out swinging leading in two of the four sets. Union was the only team to take a set from No. 4 University of Tampa in the Crossover Tournament.
Union hit .133 while Tampa hit .247. Tampa led in kills 57-42, aces 6-4, blocks 5-2, assists 54-36, and digs 89-81.
Hegg led the team in kills with 12.
Davey Slaughter and Owens led in aces with two,
Natalie Supine led in blocks with two, Vick led in assists with 30, and Sample led the team in digs with 22.
Up next for Union is a conference matchup at home against the Argonauts of West Florida. This match is set to take place Friday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m.
