JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team opened the Gulf South Conference schedule with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-11) win over Christian Brothers University Tuesday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union improved to 8-4 overall and 1-0 in league play. Christian Brothers dropped to 2-11 overall and 0-1 in league play.
The first set was close all the way through 20-19 as Union led by one. However, the Lady Bulldogs scored the last five points to earn the win. Union dominated the second, pulling away for the 25-10 win. In the third set, Union held a comfortable lead all the way through to get the sweep.
Union led in kills (43-26), aces (7-2), blocks (7-0), assists (37-24), and digs (53-42).
Union was led by
Emily Grace Calhoon with 11 kills, while
Laura Rose Gray and
Alyssa Tatsch added nine each.
Bailey Hughes led with five aces. Gray, Tatsch, and Calhoon each led with three blocks apiece.
Jordan Vick led with 32 assists and
Sydney Sample led with 13 digs.
Up next for Union will be a pair of road GSC matches September 24 and 25 at Lee University and Shorter University.
