Union University Volleyball Classic
JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team closed out the weekend home classic with a thrilling 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 26-28, 15-11) win over Carson-Newman University. Union lost earlier in the day, also in five sets to Southern Arkansas University 3-2 (19-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-13, 15-11). Union moved to 7-4 on the season.
In the win over Carson-Newman, Union outhit the Eagles .275 to .183, 74-65 in kills. Union also led in blocks (9-4), assists (57-55), and digs (121-111). Carson-Newman led in aces, 9-6.
Reese Owens led Union with 17 kills, while
Alyssa Tatsch and
Laura Rose Gray added 16 and 12 kills respectively.
Haley Ramsey led with three aces, while Gray,
Emily Grace Calhoon, and
Greta Blakemore each had three blocks to lead Union.
Jordan Vick dished out 48 assists and
Sydney Sample led with 29 digs. Vick posted a triple double with 10 kills, 48 assists, and 24 digs.Â
In the loss to SAU, the Muleriders led Union in all major stat categories except blocks where Union led 8-4. Vick led Union with 14 kills and 24 assists. Calhoon led with three aces, Gray with four blocks, and Sample with 14 digs.Â
Union's
Jordan Vick and
Sydney Sample were each named to the all-tournament team.Â
Up next for Union will be its first Gulf South Conference match of the season, a home contest versus Christian Brothers University, Tuesday, September 21 at 7 p.m.
