Union volleyball topples Erskine, Fisk in straight sets at TNU Tourney

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball continued the perfect start to the season with a two-match sweep in the first day of the Ray Thrasher Memorial Tournament hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University. Union defeated Erskine College 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-16) and then defeated Fisk University 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-18). Union improved to 6-0 on the season. 

The win for Union pushed its winning streak to seven matches dating back to last season. 

In the win over Erskine, Union hit .286 in the set, including over .400 in both the first and third sets. Union managed 37 kills in the set. Union also led in aces (14-4), and blocks (3-0), assists (35-18). The teams were even in digs at 41 each. Union was led by Reese Owens with 10 kills and 10 digs, Bailey Hughes and Owens with four aces, Jordan Vick with two blocks and 30 assists. 

In the win over Fisk, Union hit .310 for the match, including .447 in set number one. Union led in kills (42-18), blocks (5-0), assists (37-17), and digs (44-38). Fisk edged Union in aces, 6-5. Union was led by Owens again with 13 kills and 10 digs. Haley Ramsey and Vick led with two aces each, Emily Grace Calhoon led with three blocks, and Vick with 20 assists. 

Union will play two more matches Saturday, versus Arkansas Monticello at 11 a.m. and Trevecca Nazarene at 7 p.m.
