JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball defeated No. 11 University of West Florida 13-8 Saturday afternoon to salvage the final game of the 3-game weekend series. Union lost the both games of Friday's doubleheader, dropping the first game 15-6, the second game 8-3. Union moved to 10-17 overall and 8-16 in the GSC. West Florida improved to 22-6 on the season and 21-6 in league play.
In Saturday's game, the Bulldogs jumped early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first thanks to three RBI's on a
Ryan Lee double that scored
Josh Bozoian,
Jake Baker, and
Trey Frierson. Following that play,
Cooper Bullough singled and reaching second after a throw to the plate was not in time to score Lee. The Bulldogs hot bats scratched across another run in the bottom of the third after Bozoian hit a solo shot over the right field wall. In the fifth Union added yet another run after
Patrick Music hit a sacrifice fly scoring
Austin Zeitler from third. At the end of five innings the score was 6-0, Union. The Argo's got their first run of the game in the top of the sixth, but that was it, making the score 6-1 after six innings of play. The seventh inning was loaded with offense; first the Argo's scored two runs, making the score 6-3 and giving Union it's smallest lead of the game. The Bulldogs answered back, scoring four more runs thanks to a Zeitler two RBI double, a
Ryan Lee RBI single, and a Bullough RBI double. At the end of seven innings the score was 10-3. In the eighth, West Florida refused to give up, scoring two runs of their own on a 2-RBI single. The Bulldogs answered with three of their own after a Bozoian RBI single, a Zeitler RBI double, and crafty base running by Zeitler, who scored on an error. After eight innings the score was 13-5, Union. With the Argo's down to their last chance, they scored three more runs, ending the game however at 13-8, Union. The Bulldogs were led by Zeitler who went 3-4 with three RBI's. Lee added four RBI's of his own going 2-3. Bozoian had two RBI's going 2-3, Bullough had two RBI's going 2-5, and
Patrick Music had one RBI going 1-3. Baker went 1-3, and
Britt Netterville went 1-5. On the mound,
Sam McMillin earned the win pitching 5.2 innings with only four hits allowed, one earned run, and three strikeouts.
In game one Friday, Union was led by
Dorian Berry going 2-4, with two RBI for the Bulldogs.
A'Darius Pugh went 1-4 with two RBI, Baker went 3-5 with one RBI, Lee went 2-3, Frierson went 1-5 with an RBI, Netterville went 1-4, and Bozoian went 1-5.Â
Walker Adkisson took the loss for the Bulldogs, pitching 5.1 innings giving up only three hits, five earned runs, with one strikeouts.
In game two of the doubleheader, the Bulldogs were led by Zeitler who went 2-4 with a run scored and two RBI's.
 Frierson went 1-3, Baker went 1-4, Bozoian went 1-4, Music went 1-4, and Berry went 1-2. On the mound,Â
Luke Williamson took the loss, pitching five innings giving up six hits, five earned runs, with seven strikeouts.Â
Up next for Union will be a road GSC series at the University of West Georgia. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., Saturday, April 10, which will be a doubleheader. Game three, April 11, at 12:00 p.m.
