Baseball splits with Young Harris in offensive showdown

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team split a doubleheader against nonconference opponent Young Harris, Tuesday. Union won the first game 22-13, and lost the second game 13-7. Union moved to 9-12 overall. The win in game one by the Bulldogs snapped a seven game win streak held by Young Harris.

In game one, there was no shortage of offensive production from either team. Young Harris got rolling early scoring three runs in the first two innings. However, in the bottom of the second, the Bulldogs put their foot on the gas scoring six, taking the lead and not looking back until the game was tied again at 13-13 in the top of the fifth for the first time since the beginning of the game. With the game tied at 13, the Bulldogs would finish the job scoring nine more runs over the span of the next two innings. Final score of game one was 22-13. Union was led by Patrick Music who was a double shy of the cycle, going 3-6 with a home run, triple, and single. Music had seven RBI's, tying him for fourth in the record books for most RBI's in a single game at Union. Other performances of note include Trey Frierson going 1-4 with four RBI's, Austin Zeitler went 2-4 with four RBI's, Josh Bozoian went 1-5 with two RBI's, Ryan Lee went 3-4 with two RBI's, Britt Netterville went 3-3 with one RBI, and Jake Baker went 3-4 with one RBI. Ben Smith went 3-5, and Slater Schield went 3-3. Every Bulldog hitter that stepped to the plate in game one got at least one hit. On the mound for the Bulldogs, Parker Shreve earned the win out of the bullpen, pitching 2.2 innings giving up only two hits, no earned runs, and four strikeouts. Shreve is now 2-1 on the year.
                                                                                                                                     
In game two, the Mountain Lions offense didn't miss a beat, scoring seven runs in the first two innings, a lead they held on to through the duration of the game. The Bulldogs scored plenty of runs themselves, getting seven across the plate, however still falling short on a day where the runs seemed to never stop on both sides. Union was led by Britt Netterville going 3-3 with three RBI's. Josh Bozoian went 2-3 with two RBI's, Trey Frierson went 1-5, Ryan Lee went 1-3, Ben Smith went 1-3, and Slater Schield went 1-2. On the mound, Dawson Conder took his first loss of the season pitching 0.1 innings giving up three hits and five earned runs.

Up next for Union will be a home GSC series against Mississippi College, starting on Saturday, March 27. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
