Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Union University volleyball team squeaks past Valdosta State this afternoon winning 3-2 (22-25, 26-24, 23-25, 31-29, 15-10) in an exciting 5 set match. The Lady bulldogs improve to 18-12 overall and 9-5 In the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State falls to 12-18 overall and 5-9 in conference play.
After dropping the first set 25-22 Union rallied back during the second set and forced the set over 25 where they then held Valdosta State and came out on top 26-24. The third set was much like the second where both teams rallied back and forth. Valdosta State had Union on their heels by bringing the score to 24-21, but the Lady Bulldogs held the Blazers at 24 as they scored two bringing the score to 24-23. VSU would go on and score once more taking the third set.
During the fourth set Union was down early but found a way to tie the blazers at 13. Both teams were back and forth forcing the set to go over 25. The score became tied at 28, but Union took control taking the fourth set 31-29. In the fifth set Union took control early and continued to do so taking the set 10-15 and the match 3-2.
Union led the Blazers in kills 66 to 64, Digs 81-75, Blocks 15-10, Assists 63-62, and Aces 11-6.
Alyssa Tatsch led the team in kills with 18,
Emily Grace Calhoon added 15, and
Laura Rose Gray had 14. Calhoon led the team in blocks with seven.
Jordan Vick led the team in assists with 50, and
Sydney Sample recorded 30 digs.
Up next for Union is a conference matchup at home as they take on the flames of Lee University. This match is set to take place November 11th at 7:00 p.m.
