JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team posted a sweep over the University of West Alabama 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) Tuesday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium, David Blackstock Court. Union improved to 17-11 overall and 8-4 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama dropped to 1-20 on the season and 1-11 in league play.
Union jumped out to an early lead 19-11 in the first set and was able to secure the 25-17 win.
Set two was back and forth with West Alabama leading 7-6. Union then outscored West Alabama 9-1 to take a 15-8 lead. A kill by
Emily Grace Calhoon earned Union the 25-18 win.
In the third set, Union held an early 4-0 lead before West Alabama responded with four straight points to tie the set. The next several points went back and forth until a kill by
Reese Owens put Union ahead 9-8. Union never trailed again. A kill by
Alyssa Tatsch gave Union the 25-20 set win.
Union led West Alabama 44-33 in kills. Union also led in aces (8-2), blocks (5-3), assists (38-30), and digs (54-44).
Union was led by Tatsch with 12 kills, while Calhoon and
Laura Rose Gray added nine and six kills respectively.
Jordan Vick led with 28 assists, while Calhoon and
Greta Blakemore led with two blocks each.
Sydney Sample led with 16 digs.
Haley Ramsey and Blakemore each logged two aces.
West Alabama's Fisher had 11 kills, with Johnigan getting eight kills, and Van Dyke earning 26 assists.
