Union men's soccer wins 2-1 over Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala. - The Union University men's soccer team posted a 2-0 win over Spring Hill College Sunday afternoon. With the win, Union improved to 6-2-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Spring Hill dropped to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the GSC.

After a scoreless first half where the Badgers out shot the Bulldogs 9-1, William Valencia scored his fourth goal of the season in the 48th minute to put Union up 1-0. Stan De Vries assisted on the play. Freshman Manayeh Linton scored his first career goal in the 60th minute, assisted by Gavin Scott and Valencia. Spring Hill's Brogan Horniman scored in the 84th minute, but Union was able to come away with the 2-1 win. 

Spring Hill out shot Union 18-7 in the match, including 10-5 in shots on goal. The Badgers just edged the Bulldogs in corners, 10-8.

Sophomore goalkeeper Botond Nemeth played all 90 minutes and logged nine saves.

Valencia and De Vries led the Bulldogs with two shots each. Linton, Scott, and Jacob Greene all recorded one shot. 

Up next for Union is a home match against the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Friday, October 8th at 7:15 p.m.
