JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's soccer team lost 6-0 to Mississippi College at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Union dropped to 6-5-3 overall and 3-5-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College improved to 7-4-1 on the season and 4-2-1 in league play.
Mississippi College scored first in the 26th minute, then added two more goals in the 35th and 43rd minute to take a 3-0 lead at the half.
The Choctaws added three more goals in the second half, including one just 35 seconds into the second half and another in the 52nd minute.
Union managed just one shot in each half and were out shot 26-2 overall and 14-0 in shots on goal.
Stan DeVries and
Manayeh Linton each recorded one shot in the loss.
Botond Nemeth had eight saves in 90 minutes of work.
This was the first time Union had allowed six goals in a game since a road game at Eckerd back in 2016. It was the most given up since seven goals allowed back in the NAIA era in 2009. The two shots for Union was the lowest total in a match in the NCAA D2 Era (since 2012).
Up next for Union will be the final regular season match of the year, a road GSC contest at Christian Brothers, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. There will be postseason play on the line for Union and CBU. Union is currently in eighth place in the standings, while CBU is sits in sixth place. The top eight teams advancing to the GSC Tournament.
