MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University men's soccer team lost 2-0 at Christian Brothers University Thursday night. Union dropped to 6-6-3 overall and 3-6-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 9-5-2 overall and 5-4-2 in league play.Â
The first half of the season had Union reaching No. 8 in the national polls, the highest in program history. Union, coming off a GSC Championship in the spring season of 2021 were playing well and looking for another postseason run. However, the Bulldogs went 0-4-1 in its final five matches, trying to battle a flurry of injuries throughout the season.Â
Despite the rough string of matches, a win versus CBU would have given Union a shot at one of the last two seeds in the GSC Tournament.Â
CBU scored two first half goals, including the first and game winning goal in the fifth minute of play. The Bucs added an insurance goal in the 25th minute.
CBU out shot Union 9-4 in the first half and 6-4 in the second half. Union managed just one shot on goal, while giving CBU nine on target.Â
Noah Penner led Union with three shots and had the lone shot on goal.
Botond Nemeth recorded seven saves in his 90 minutes of work.Â
