Before Union
Penner prepped at Memorial High School and McKinney Boyd HS where heh played a combined three years of soccer. He led his high school team to the North Texas Region Title. He was named first team all-district twice and Offensive MVP twice. Penner played club soccer in North Texas for 10 years including stops with FC Dallas Academy, the Dallas Texans Academy, and finally with the Solar De Leon National League Team. Penner played in the semifinals for both the Gothia Cup and the Dana Cup in Sweden and Denmark. His club team was a finalist in the Dallas Cup and claimed the Surf Cup title.
