Union volleyball powers past Valdosta State, 3-0

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team posted a 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-14) win over Valdosta State University Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium, David Blackstock Court. Union improved to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Valdosta State dropped to 7-9 on the season and 1-3 in league play. 

The first set was close all the way with Union edging the Blazers 27-25. However, in the second and third sets, Union dominated play to close out the match in three sets. With the second set tied 7-7, Union went on a roll, scoring 10 of the next 11 points, including seven straight points. Now leading 17-8, Union coasted to the win. In the third set, Union picked up where it left off, scoring the first seven points of the set, and nine of the first 10. Union again coasted to the match-clinching win. 

Union led in all major stat categories including kills (447-36), hitting percentage (.380-.192), aces (7-1), blocks (4-3), assists (46-36), and digs (45-30). 

Union was led by Alyssa Tatsch's double-double with 18 kills and 12 digs. She also led with two blocks and recorded an ace. Jordan Vick led with four aces and 41 assists. Emily Grace Calhoon matched Tatsch with two blocks. 

Up next for Union will be a couple of road matches October 5 at Christian Brothers and October 9 at Mississippi College.
