Union women's soccer falls 1-0 to West Alabama on late goal

JACKSON, Tenn. The Union University women's soccer team lost 1-0 at home against the University of West Alabama. Union dropped to 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama improved to 6-2-1 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.

This match was all about defense as both teams remained scoreless after the first half. With just under 15 minutes left in regulation, West Alabama scored the match's only goal when Dana Cruz found the back of the net. That goal was assisted by Kaylah Butterworth.

Union was out shot 13-5, and West Alabama also topped Union 7-4 in shots on goal. West Alabama had nine corner kicks to Union's one.

Annika Weidner, Holly Trisdale, Lilly Ludwig, and Rivers Abshere all recorded shots in the match. Bryson Lee totaled 6 saves in 90 minutes of play.

Up next for Union is a road trip to Valdosta, Ga for a GSC matchup against Valdosta State. This match is set to take place Friday, October 15th at 6 p.m. central time.
