PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Union University men's soccer team notched another win in the win column Friday night as they defeated the Argonauts of West Florida, 2-1. Union Moves to 5-2-2 overall, 2-2-1 in the Gulf South Conference on the year, while the University of West Florida drops to 3-1-1 overall, and 0-1-0 in conference.
The Bulldogs went ahead early in just the third minute of the match as
Gavin Scott scored his seventh goal of the season. Just fifteen minutes later Scott put the Bulldogs up by two as he scored his eighth goal of the season.
William Valencia was credited with the assist. Toward the end of the first half, West Florida would answer back with one of their own.
Union played some great defense in the second half resulting in a scoreless second half. Goalkeeper
Botond Nemeth recorded four saves in the match. Despite being out shot 16-6 Union's defense is what helped them come out on top.
Scott and Valencia led the team in shots while
Noah Penner, and
James Jackson also recorded shots in the match.
Up next for Union is a conference matchup as they wrap up the weekend in Mobile, Alabama where they will face off against Spring Hill College. Kickoff is set to take place Sunday, October 3rd at 3:30 p.m.
