JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team posted a doubleheader sweep over LeMoyne-Owen College at Fesmire Field. Union won the first game 14-0 and the second game 23-0. Union improved to 15-7 on the season, while LeMoyne-Owen dropped to 0-4.
Union's
Taylor Manley (2-0) tossed a 1-hit shutout over five innings with nine strikeouts. Union outhit LeMoyne-Owen 16-1 in the game. Union was led by
Alyssa Ward and
Gabby Morris with three hits each. Morris had a solo home run in the game.
Sydney Christian led Union with three RBI.
In game two, Union pitchers Manley and
Parker Davis combined for a no-hitter over five innings of work. Manley started and tossed two innings of work, allowing no runs and no hits with three strikeouts.
Parker Davis (6-6) tossed the final three innings, allowing no run and no hits with four strikeouts. Union had 23 hits in the game led by Ward with four hits, followed by
Grace White and
Kayla McNeal with three hits each. Ward led with five RBI, while
Sarah Smith recorded three RBI. Morris hit another home run, her team leading seventh of the season. Ward, Smith, and Molly McKellvey also hit home runs in the game. Ward's was an inside-the-park homer.
Up next for Union will be a weekend GSC series at Montevallo. Friday's game started at 6 p.m., while Saturday's doubleheader starts at 12 p.m.
