JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team posted a doubleheader sweep over Lane College Wednesday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Union won 13-0 in the first game and 24-0 in game two. Union improved to 9-5 on the season, while Lane dropped to 0-2 overall.
In the first game, Union's offense posted 13 runs on nine hits. However, it was the pitching of the reigning TSWA Pitcher of the Week,
Parker Davis that set the stage. Davis went four and two-thirds innings of no-hit softball before allowing the first hit in the top of the fifth. She retired the next hitter for a complete game five inning 1-hit shutout.
Sarah Smith hit a home run for Union, while
Peyton Mathis and
Parker Davis added a double each. Smith led with three RBI and was a team-best 3-for-3 at the plate.
Game two was an offensive explosion for Union, pounding out 22 hits and 24 runs. Union scored eight runs in both the second and forth innings. Four players hit home runs for Union including
Idalia Alarcon,
Grace White,
Gabby Morris, and Smith's second homer of the day. Alarcon, White, and
Taylor Manley led with four RBI each, while White and Manley led with three hits. Manley not only helped offensively, but posted a complete game, 3-hit shutout in the circle with five strikeouts and three walks.
Up next for Union will be the Gulf South Conference opener, at Union February 22-23. Saturday's double header starts at 1 p.m.
