JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team posted two wins over No. 20 the University of Alabama in Huntsville Saturday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Union improved to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in the GSC. UAH dropped to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Union knocked off UAH 5-2 in the first game and 6-2 in the second game.
In the first win, Union took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. UAH scored one run in the fifth, then scored one more in the sixth to tie the game.
Parker Davis hit her second home run of the season, a 2-run shot, in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead again.
Harley Bartholomew then doubled to left field.
Alyssa Ward hit a single and drove in Bartholomew with the help of an error to set the score at 5-2. Davis (5-4) then did the rest in the circle to earn the win. She tossed a complete game seven innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
Union's second win of the day included seven hits from six different players. Union scored four runs in the second to lead 4-0. A UAH home run by Shannon Long in the sixth cut the lead to two. Union responded with two runs in sixth to seal the win at 6-2. Only one of Union's runs was earned in the win. Freshman shortstop
Idalia Alarcon led Union with a 2-for-3 game with three RBI.
Gabby Morris (5-1) tossed a complete game seven innings for the win, allowing two runs on 6 hits with five strikeouts.
Union did not commit an error on the day.
Up next for Union is the third and final game of the series against UAH on Sunday, February 23, at noon.
