ROME, Ga. - The Union University women's basketball team wrapped up its trip to Georgia with a 94-68 win over Shorter University Saturday afternoon. Union improved to 18-4 overall and 12-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Shorter fell to 1-17 overall and 1-12 in conference.
Union jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, 23-12. Both teams posted their best quarters of the game in the second, with Union edging Shorter 27-23. Union held a 15 point lead heading into halftime, 50-35.
The Lady Bulldogs led by as many as 31 points in the fourth quarter, 91-60 with just over three minutes on the clock, before taking the 94-68 final.
Union was led by
Jaelencia Williams' tenth double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Jada Smith scored 20 points,
Shanique Lucas scored 15, and
Emily Beard scored 11. Freshman
Kieli Robinson recorded a career-high seven rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs shot 52 percent from the field, 44 percent (7-16) from 3-point range, and 84 percent (21-25) from the foul line.
Shorter was led by Bolden with 21 points. Gaines scored 19 points, while Fuller and Burnett added 12 and 11 points respectively. Fuller led with eight rebounds. The Lady Hawks shot 41 percent from the field, 25 percent (5-20) from long range, and 83 percent (15-18) from the free throw line.
The Lady Bulldogs have Thursday off, before hosting Delta State Saturday, February 8 at 2 p.m. at Fred Delay Gymnasium in a key GSC matchup.
