Union men's soccer caps off weekend with 5-1 victory over Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Union University men's soccer team closed out the weekend wiht a 5-1 win over Drury University. 

Union took off early with an unassisted goal by Felipe Firmino 51 seconds into the match. It would be all Union in the first half when Gavin Scott scored his first of the night in the 22nd minute, and later again in the 33rd minute. Scott's second goal assited by William Valencia

Union led 3-0 at the half. Union also outshot Drury 7-2 in the first half. 

Felipe Firmino jumped back into the action in the 78th minute with a goal, his second of the night. The Firmino goal assisted by Billy Grogan. Hunter Walker capped off the night for the offense with his first goal of the year in the 80th minute. That would extend the lead to 5-0. Drury's Mitchell Vaughn did put one in net late in the 81st minute for their only goal of the game. 

Union outshot Drury 12-9 throughout the game, and led the shots on goal category 5-2. Union's goalkeeper Euan Morton recorded 1 save in the game, playing all 90 minutes. 

Up next for Union is the Gulf South Conference opener against Auburn University Montgomery. That is a home game that will be at the Smith Memorial Soccer Complex September 22nd at 2 p.m.
