JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team was swept in the final two games of the series against No. 1 University of West Florida on Saturday afternoon. Union dropped to 24-18 on the season and 11-10 in the Gulf South Conference. West Florida improved to 36-5 overall and 19-2 in conference play.
In the first game, Union took the lead in the first inning with a homer by Kaitlyn Kelley. In the second inning, West Florida scored one run to tie the game. The Argonauts took the lead in the fourth inning, scoring four runs. In the sixth, West Florida added their final two runs. Union's final run came from Gabby Morris. The final score was 7-2.
Gabby Morris took the loss, tossing three innings and giving up eight hits with one strikeout. Parker Davis tossed for two innings and giving up three hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Ashley Graves tossed for two innings with one strikeout and one walk. Peyton Mathis led the Bulldogs with two hits.
In the second game, West Florida scored one run, and in the second inning, the Argonauts added two more runs. In the third inning, Alyssa Ward scored off a Morris single up the middle. In the fifth, Haley Barnette homered to center field, bringing in Kelley to tie the game up. In the sixth, West Florida scored their final two runs. The final score was 5-3.
Morris took the loss for Union, tossing seven innings with three strikeouts. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Morris with three hits.
Up next for Union is another GSC series at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on April 13-14.
