Union baseball ends the 2019 season with win over Christian Brothers

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team defeated Christian Brothers University in the final game of the season on Sunday afternoon, 8-6. The Bulldogs improved on the  season 16-32 overall and 8-22 in Gulf South Conference play. Christian Brothers finished 9-36 overall and 5-24 in conference play. 

Christian Brothers were on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the second, Hayden Lewis scored of a double by Jesse Kelley. In the third, Union tied the game at two when Lewis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Josh Frantz. The Bulldogs then took the lead off a single by Spencer Schultz, scoring Caleb DeMarigny and Nolen Milton, and Lewis added another run off a single by Zane Phillips. In the fourth, Kelley hit a two RBI single, bringing in Frantz and DeMarigny. CBU added one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth. In the eighth inning, the Buccaneers scored off a single to bring the game within one run. In the bottom of the eighth, Kelley singled to right field, scoring Lewis. 

Union was led by Kelley with three hits and four RBI. Five different Bulldogs had one hit. 

Cooper Bullough earned the win, tossing one inning and giving up one hit with one strikeout. Walker Adkisson earned his fourth save of the year, pitching one inning. Brandon Maxwell started, tossing 4.1 innings with five strikeouts and one earned run. Logan Portis also made an appearance on the mound with 2.2 innings. 

The Bulldogs ended the 2019 season 16-32 overall and 8-22 in Gulf South Conference play.
