JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team defeated LeMoyne-Owen College 18-0 and 17-0 in a double-header Wednesday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Both games ended in five innings. Union improved to 12-9 on the season, and LeMoyne-Owen dropped to 0-5.
In the first game, Union scored two runs in the first inning. Then scored 15 runs in the second inning and one run in the fourth inning. Taylor Manley (2-0) earned the win for the Lady Bulldogs, tossing five innings giving up one hit with 13 strikeouts. Only two base runner reached on Manley, one hit and one hit-by-pitch. Union was led by Kaitlyn Kelley with three hits and two RBI. Gabby Morris had three hits and one RBI. Haley Barnette had two hits, including a homer.
In the second game, Union score four runs in the first inning. In the third inning, Union scored eight runs and then in the fourth inning, the Lady Bulldogs added five more runs. Ashley Graves (1-0) earned the win, tossing five innings giving up one hit with seven strikeouts and one walk. Sarah Smith led Union with four hits, including a double and a home run. Parker Davis and Bartholomew also had three hits for Union. Kelley and Sydney Christian hit home runs for the Lady Bulldogs. Christian's homer was an inside the park home run that got past a diving right fielder and went all the way to the corner.
Up next for Union is the first home GSC series against Auburn-Montgomery on March 10-11.
