LAKELAND, Fla. - The Union University women's basketball team fell to Nova Southeastern 71-66 in the South Region quarterfinals. Union finished their season 27-4. Nova improved to 19-11.
Morgan Martin scored the first six points for Union. With a three from Tiffany Rechis and a layup from Jada Smith, Union jumped up 13-10 at the 5:06 minute mark. Nova proceeded to go on a nine point run. Union battled back to finished the quarter within two of Nova, 19-17.
A three from Rechis to start the second quarter gave Union the lead once again. Both teams battled for the lead heading into the half. A three from Martin tied the ball game up at 33 with two minutes left in the half. Nova scored with 1:55 left to head into the locker room up 35-33.
Both teams faught for the lead in the start of the third quarter. Union went on a five point run with 5:51 still to play. Nova battled back to tie it up once again. Nova finished the quarter ahead by six, 52-46.
The Lady Bulldogs started the fourth quarter hot, tying the ball game up at 54 within three minutes of play and then continuing the run to jump ahead 61-54 with 5:14 left to play. Nova battled back and finished the game ahead, 71-66.
Union was lead by Martin with 27 points and nine rebounds. Smith scored 20 points adding six assists and three steals. Rechis hit five threes, adding 15 points for Union.
Nova scored 16 points off of second chance rebounds. The Sharks out rebounded Union 40-29.
Union played without two of their season starters due to injury.
