Union men top Mississippi College 77-65 for sixth straight win

CLINTON, Miss. - The Union University men's basketball team defeated Mississippi College 77-65 Saturday evening in Mississippi. Union improved to 15-8 overall and 10-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College dropped to 5-15 on the season and 2-13 in league play. 

This is the Bulldogs sixth straight win on the season, the longest winning streak since the 2015-16 season. Six straight GSC wins for Union's men is also the most since joining the league in 2012-13. 

MC scored the first four points of the ball game.  Union's Terrandus Smith followed with a three to put Union on the board. A jumper by Payton Stovall gave Union their first lead. Two made free throws from Mississippi College gave them their only lead in the ball game. The Bulldogs went into the locker room ahead, 35-26. 

The Bulldogs dominated the second half. A three from JC Hawkins to start the second half kept Union's nine point lead. Tevin Florent's dunk with one minute left in the ball game gave Union a 17 point lead, the largest of the ball game. Union won the game 77-65. 

Lidonta Hicks-Gentry scored 21 points, shooting 67 percent (8-12) from the field while also grabbing seven rebounds. Smith had 20 points with nine rebounds while shooting 50 percent (6-12) from the field and 80 percent (4-5) from the three point line. Tylandrius Parks added 14 points for Union, Stovall with 13. 

Marcus Lytle led for Mississippi College with 15 points and Tre Jenkins with 11. 

Union out rebounded MC 35-27. The Bulldogs shot 52 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc. 

Up next for Union is Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn. on Monday at 7 p.m.
