MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team lost 89-74 at Christian Brothers University Monday night. Union dropped to 15-9 overall and 10-6 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 17-7 on the season and 12-4 in league play.
The game was moved down the street to Rhodes College after intense rains caused a roof leak in the CBU gym. The games were moved just prior to the women's and the start times pushed back from 5 p.m. until just after 6 p.m.
Union still remains in the tournament field with four games left in the regular season, currently sitting in sixth place. Union needs just one win in its final four games (three of which are at home) to clinch as spot in the GSC Tournament in March. CBU's men move into second place in the GSC standings, winning 9 of its last 10 games.
CBU scored the first four points of the game. Union responded and took its only lead of the night, 8-7, following a layup from
Terrandus Smith. CBU regained the lead for good on the next possession and pushed its lead up to eight points. Union rallied again to cut the deficit to just two, 22-20 with 10:11 left in the half. CBU again pulled away and led by as many as 13 points in the first half, while Union managed to get the deficit under 10 by the half, 49-40. Smith has 22 points for Union at the half.
Both teams came out firing on their first few possessions of the second half. Union got 3-pointers from
JC Hawkins and Peyton Stovall. However, CBU matched the shots as Union got as close as six, 54-48 on Smith's layup with 17:37 left to play. CBU posted a 12-0 run including a 3-pointer and 3-point play from Adam Dieball to put his team up by 18 points, 66-48, with 14:50 left. CBU's largest lead of the game was 69-49 with 12:09 left. Union did not go away, clawing back to within 11 points, 71-60, after a Stovall 3-pointers. But the Bulldogs could not hold down the CBU hot shooting for long, falling 89-74.
Union was led by Smith with 27 points. It was the 10th game this season with 20-plus points and fourth straight. Stovall added 14 points on four 3-pointers.
Tylandrius Parks recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Union shot 48 percent from the field, 44 percent (10-23) from 3-point range, and 89 percent (8-9) from the free throw line.

The Bucs shot 58 percent from the field, 39 percent (11-28) from long range, and 82 percent (14-17) from the free throw line.
Union out-rebounded CBU 31-23, while CBU committed just six turnovers to Union's 10.
