JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team was defeated 16-4 by Arkansas Tech University Tuesday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Union dropped to 2-2 on the season, while Arkansas Tech improved 3-1.
Union got on the board in the first when Hayden Lewis' single drove in Nolen Milton and Charlie Ellis in the bottom of the first. Arkansas Tech scored three in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth. Union added another run on a Milton sacrifice fly in the fourth, bringing in Zane Phillips. The Wonderboys broke the game open with two homers in the sixth. The Bulldogs last score of the game was on Dacoda Stone's double in the sixth, bringing in Phillips. Arkansas Tech added a two-run homer in the seventh, and hit its fourth home run of the game in the 3-run eighth to set the final at 16-4.
Walker Adkisson (0-1) took the loss, tossing three innings, allowing nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Kory Pollard, Cooper Bullough, and Owen Bartholomew all made an appearance on the mound for the Bulldogs. Caleb DeMarigny led the team in hits with three, and Lewis led with two RBI.
Up next for Union is a 3-game home series against Maryville University. The single game is Friday, February 8 at 2 p.m., with the double-head set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
