JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball defeated Brescia University 98-61 Saturday afternoon at Fred Delay Gymnasium. Union improved to 3-1 on the season, while Brescia dropped to 1-6.
The first three minutes of the game were back and forth, but after
Jada Smith made a free throw to put Union up 8-7, the Lady Bulldogs never trailed again. Union led by as many as 24 points and headed into halftime with a 47-23 lead. In the second half, Union led by as many as 39 points, 98-59 with 54 seconds left to play.
Union was led by
Emily Beard with 18 points.
Jaelencia Williams added 16 points and
Leah Cauble scored 14 points. Williams and
Shanique Lucas each recorded seven rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs. Union shot 48 percent from the field, 46 percent (15-33) from long range, and 90 percent (9-10) from the free throw line.
Brescia was led by Moss with 16 points while Jeffries scored 10 points. Collins and Holloway added 7 points each. Fisher led with six rebounds. The Bearcats shot 36 percent from the field, 33 percent (7-21) from 3-point range, and 88 percent (14-16) from the free throw line.
