Union women's basketball falls at No. 11 Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Union University women's basketball team fell at No. 11 Central Missouri 67-58 Monday night. Union dropped to 3-2 on the season, while UCM improved to 2-2 overall.
 
After a closely played first quarter, UCM came away with the 15-13 lead. UCM led by as many as seven points in the second quarter before Union cut the deficit to just five, 32-27 at the half. Union outscored UCM 15-13 in the third quarter to cut the Jennies' lead to three. Union took the lead early in the fourth quarter on a pair of free throws by Jacie Higgins. The Lady Bulldogs were able to maintain the lead for four minutes before a pair of free throws by Morgan Fleming gave the Jennies the lead for good. UCM outscored Union 12-4 in the last four minutes of the game. 
 
Union was led by Jada Smith and Jaelencia Williams with 16 and 15 points respectively. Williams recorded 10 rebounds while Smith recorded 6. Emily Beard added 8 points. Union shot 36 percent from the field, 25 percent (3-12) from long range, and 93 percent (13-14) from the free-throw line.
 
UCM was led by Morgan Fleming with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Skaggs added 15 points and 5 rebounds. The Jennies shot 39 percent from the field, 24 percent (6-25) from the 3-point line, and 79 percent (19-24) from the foul line.
 
Up next for Union will be the Gulf South Conference opener, Saturday, November 23 versus West Florida at 2 p.m.
