CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team posted a 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-12, 15-8) victory over Lee University Friday Night. Union improved to 19-11 overall and 11-4 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee dropped to 9-21 on the season and 2-13 in league play.
Union hit .209 in the match while Lee hit .138 with Lee edging Union 56-55 in kills. Union led 8-6 in aces and blocks 12-4. Lee led in digs 100-98.
In the first set, Union jumped out to a 9-3 lead. Lee then scored eight of the next nine points to take the lead 11-10. Lee retained the lead for the remained of the set and won 25-22. In a closely played second set, neither team scored more than four points in a row and Union won the set 25-23. Lee started the set with a 3-0 lead on its way to a 25-21 third set victory. Union dominated the fourth set 25-12.
The Lady Bulldogs scored five of the first six points, forcing a Lady Flames timeout. Union held the lead for the remainder of the set, capping off the win with a kill by
Kristen Bukowsky.
Union was led by Bukowsky with 15 kills.
Emily Grace Calhoon was close behind with 14 kills, while
Meghan Delaney added 9. Calhoon led with six blocks, Bukowsky and Adna Alihozic each added five.
Jordan Vick led with 36 assists, and
Abbie Rahn with 30 digs.
Freshman
Jordan Vick passed the 1,000 career assists milestone Friday night. Vick's 36 assists in the match pushed the setter to 1,035 assists for her career.
Vick, a 5-foot-7 setter from Camden, Tenn., has made an immediate impact at Union, starting all 30 matches this season and playing in all 117 sets. On the season, Vick also has 281 digs with 30 blocks and 26 aces.
Up next for Union is its final regular season match. The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Rome, Ga. to take on Shorter November 16 at noon.
