CBU slips past Union women's soccer 1-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union Universty women's soccer team fell 1-0 at Christian Brothers University Friday evening. Union dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in league play.

Union head coach Scott Sinclair said, "It was a typical rivalry game, very competitive. I am so proud of the girls' effort and their concentration. CBU is very organized and our defense had to deal with a lot of balls in and around the box. It was great to see, when we got the ball down and played, we got some really good chances. I am very proud of the girls despite the result tonight. We will learn from this and work hard in practice this week."

The match's lone goal came from CBU in the 42nd minute of play. CBU outshot Union 10-1 in the first half and led 1-0 at the break. Union won the shots battle in the second half, 5-4. CBU finished the match leading Union 14-6, including 6-4 in shots on goal.

Union was led by Austen DeLoach with two shots. Rylee Iorio led recorded five saves in her 90 minutes in goal.

Up next for Union will be two more GSC road matches, first of which is at Mississippi College Friday, October 11 at 1 p.m.
