Jackson, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team fell 3-1 (23-25, 29-27, 25-19, 33-31) to West Georgia in a battle for second place in the Gulf South Conference standings. Going into the game both teams were 6-1 in the conference. Union falls to 14-9 overall, and 6-2 in GSC play.
Union only fell in kills by one to West Georgia, 67-66. Union led with a hitting percentage of .322, topping West Georgia who hit .293. Union fell in services aces 10-4. Union did, however, dominate the net in blocks with a 14-9 advantage. Union led in digs at 63-56.
Meghan Delaney led Union tonight with 17 digs and notched her career-high in kills with 28. Her 28 kills is the most this season in a 4-set match in the GSC. It was also the second highest kills in a match total this season. Delaney already holds the top four kills in a 3-set match in GSC this season.
Emily Grace Calhoon led the team with blocks, she had six block assists and three block solo's for a total nine, which is her career-high.
Jordan Vick scores her career-high in assists and led Union tonight with 50. Madi Flemming for West Georgia added 56 assists. The two setters knotched the 1st and 3rd highest 4-set assists totals in the GSC this season.
Up next for Union is a home GSC matchup against Valdosta State University, October 26 at 2 p.m.
