HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Union University men's soccer team lost 2-1 in double-overtime at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Union dropped to 6-6 overall and 4-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama Huntsville improved to 5-7-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in league play.
The game was moved from the UAH campus to Merrimack Stadium that has artificial turf due to the heavy rains prior to and during the match. Union got on the board first with the help of an own goal from UAH in the 13th minute of play. Alabama Huntsville tied the match in the 32nd minute of play. The 1-1 score stood for the remainder of regulation.
UAH got the game-winning goal in the 104th minute of play.
Union and UAH had five shots each in the first half, while UAH dominated the second half 16-2 in shots. Union got on shot in the first overtime, and the Chargers scored on their only shot in overtime. UAH finished the game, outshooting Union 22-9, including 7-1 in shots on goal.
Union was led by
Martin Knudsen with three shots and the team's only shot on goal.
Iudy Lopes and
William Valencia had two shots each.
Casper Nyberg recorded four saves, playing the entire match in goal.
