BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Union University volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-20) win over Barry University in the final match of the South Region Crossover Classic. Union improved to 14-8 overall. Barry, who was ranked as high as No. 13 this season and currently receiving votes in the national rankings, dropped to 13-6.
With a Friday win over Nova Southeastern, Union was the only GSC school in the entire league to win two games in the
South Region Crossover Classic. Union also lost 3-1 to Embry Riddle early Saturday.

Darrin McClure said, "This team has had a lot of firsts this year and tonight was another one of those. To play so composed against a team like Barry was really incredible. In the second set, we went on a 14-0 run and that was definitely a first. Anyone will tell you that simply serving that may ball in a row over is challenging enough but to do it against a great team is pretty special. We are excited about the win and will enjoy it tonight but we have bigger goals and hope to have bigger wins down the road."
Union trailed 1-0 in the first set but once ahead 2-1, the Lady Bulldogs held the lead for the rest of the set. In the second set, Union was down 4-3, but stormed back with 14 straight points to lead 17-4 and cruise to the win. Senior
Abbie Rahn served 13 straight points for Unioin during that run. In the third set, Barry led 4-3, but again Union took the lead and never trailed. Union led by as many as six points a twice in the third set, before taking the match 25-20.
Union hit .209 in the match, while Barry struggled against the Union defense, hitting just .032. Union had just 14 attach errors to 29 for Barry. Union led 38-33 in kills, 4-2 in aces, while dominated the net 8-1 in blocks. Union also led 57-49 in digs also.

Meghan Delaney led Union with 18 kills.
Kristen Goggin led with two aces,
Emily Grace Calhoon led with four blocks,
Jordan Vick with 26 assists, and
Abbie Rahn with 17 digs.
Earlier in the day, Union sufferred its only loss of the crossover. Embry Riddle topped Union 3-1 (19-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-21). Union won the first set and played the final three very close. Embry Riddle was receiving votes last week in the national rankings, but dropped out this week. Union was led by Delaney with 10 kills and two aces,
Alyssa Tatsch led with four blocks,
Jordan Vick with 34 assists, and
Abbie Rahn with 23 digs.
Union returns to GSC action for the remainder of the regular season with nine games left, five of which are at home. Union starts a two-match home stand Friday, October 25 versus West Georgia at 7 p.m.
