CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Union University men's soccer team closed out the weekend with a 3-2 win over Delta State University.
Union's
Gavin Scott scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 18th minute of the match, assisted by
Cole Asfour. The score remained 1-0 heading into halftime. Union outshot Delta 4-2 in the first half.
Just three minutes into the second half, Asfour added a goal of his own, assisted by
Mats Fredriksen.
Maarten Brands scored his first career goal in 68th minute, which would turn out to be the game-winner. Brands' goal was unassisted.
The Statesmen scored just 21 seconds after Brands' goal, and again in the 85th minute, but the Bulldogs were able to hold on for the win.

Steven Cox said, "Our guys worked incredibly hard this afternoon. We moved the ball well and created multiple goal-scoring opportunities. Our guys were committed to working hard on both sides of the ball. It was great for
Maarten Brands to get his first collegiate goal and the game-winner."
Union outshot Delta 9-8 throughout the game, while shots on goal were equal at 6-6. Union's goalkeeper
Casper Nyberg recorded 4 saves in the game, playing all 90 minutes.
