JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the University of West Alabama Friday evening at Smith Soccer Complex. Union dropped to 0-5 on the season and 0-3 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. The match was the GSC home opener for Union. 

The match was scoreless for the majority of the first half. Then with just 15 seconds left in the half, West Alabama's Abbi Russell scored a goal from in the box on a well played assist by TeMia Pride. The Tigers went into the half up 1-0. West Alabama outshot Union 12-3 in the first half. 

In the second half, West Alabama added an insurance goal in the 61st minute off play. Abbi Russell scored on an assist from Alina Kosunen. 

West Alabama outshot Union 23-6 in the match, including 12-3 on goal. Union led in fouls 15-8, while the Tigers led Union 6-3 in corner kicks. 

Makaila Marsh led Union with three shots. Anna Venckus played all 90 minutes in goal, recording 10 saves for Union. 

Up next for Union is a GSC match September 23 versus Alabama Huntsville at 1:00 p.m.
